If you are experiencing connection problems, here is a list of other items to check.
Check the phone cable from your modem to the wall jack. Is it a quality cable? Some live test have proven
that installing a higher grade telephone cable can result in a more stable connection with higher connect speeds.
Check the ends of the phone cable. Do they fit securely in the jack and modem? A loose connection in the jack could cause
interference with the connection. High grade jacks are inexpensive and can be replaced easily.
Try taking a small eraser and rub lightly on the contacts inside the jack. Slight carbon build-up can result in bad connections.
The use of Y adapters, splitters, and similar equipment has been known to prevent stable connections. Configure your phone wiring for the
most direct path from the computer to the point where the telephone line enters the house. Twisted connections
can cause frequent disconnects as well.
One at a time, remove devices from the line to see if something else if causing the problem. Answering machines, Caller ID boxes, cordless phones, etc.
have been known to create enough interference to prevent stable connections. Removing the devices one at a time will
allow you to determine which device is causing the problem.
