Could we have made it without them ?

The "Vacation Bible School Helpers"

They never failed to give us the "fuel" to carry on and continue in the race.

Every night we had something good to eat. When we came in tired from recreation we were served cool refusing Cool Aid or Juice, along with a never ending choice of Sandwiches, Chips, Cookies, Chili, Soup and on Friday night a special treat of "Watermelon"!.

Did anyone doubt that we would go on to "WIN?"

All week Pastor William was helping us. He would begin each night with announcements, offerings and prayer.

But was that the end of his work? No, no hardly.

He was there every step of the way, encouraging each person as they did what needed to be done to win this all important race to the "Son".

When a teacher was needed - he stepped in.

When a prop needed hanging - he climbed the ladder.

When a baby need feeding - he found the bottle.

When a helper needed a hug - he found the energy.

After 5 nights of hard work and a lot of practice, the final program was presented on Sunday July 18, 2004. Everyone was present, the children, the parents, the grandparents, the staff and all the rest of the congregation.

The Rickshaw Rally Race had begun.

We topped the very successful "Rickshaw Rally" presentation off with a Fellowship Dinner provided by all the members and friends of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lexington Tennessee.

Everyone here wishes to thank all of you for allowing your children to share their talents with us, for we have received so much from each of them. We certainly do hope that each and every one of you will come back next year to see what new adventure we can share together.

We had a great week of Vacation Bible School, July 12 - 16. There were a total of 14 children and 16 workers during the week of our Rickshaw Rally, Racing to the Son. Our young people did a great job on the closing program held July 18, with over 70 people in attendance. The children raised $55.45 from their daily offering, which has been sent to the C.P. Children's Home in Denton, TX.

Our VBS would not have been a success without the dedicated work of Tara Wiseman, Becky Blankenship, and Joann Blankenship whose creativity transformed the church into a mini-Japan. We extend our thanks to christine Walters and Beth Blow for teaching, Twyla Heikes and Pat Jones for crafts, Nick Tucker for recreation, Betty Roberts, Lucille Jones, and Linda Fout for working in the kitchen and the many who provided meals. Thanks for making VBS 2004 great!

Rev. William Jones
