"Creature Features"
Australian Cattle Dog and American Indian Horses

ACD's, Blue Heelers or Queensland Heelers,                         LITTLE FEATHER is full of fun...
... *AND* has been recognized as *AUTHENTIC*
were bred for their endurance and problem solving abilities.
Our 'Millie' continues to amaze and amuse us
with her never ending fun-quests and near human intelligence.
Her understood vocabulary is amazing.
She is more than just a dog. She is our friend and our companion.
Her loyalty is beyond question.
She is the 'Overseer' of all that she surveys
and takes it upon herself to remind us of feedings
and other sundry chores.
She accompanies us on almost every ride, no matter the duration.
With all of her assorted 'side-trips'
to maintain our safety running off coyotes and other creatures,
she MUST travel at least twice the distance that the horses do
and she does it tirelessly!
Amazing creature!!

Introducing Millie's dog,
WHITEY ROADKILL

"Whitey" is a stray that showed up here in early Oct. '02.
She's a sweet little thing
and we're guessing that she is a Heeler/Feist (Jack Russell Terrier) cross.
She's proving to be an EXCELLENT critter-getter!!
We didn't have the heart to run her off (or worse)
and Millie took a liking to her so she's here,
apparently for the duration.

WASHOE ONESOCK (aka "Marezilla, pictured at 6 yrs.),
who was stunted when we acquired her at 12 mos.,
has grown to immense proportions, topping off near 16.2h!!
She is always her regal, elegant self.
Sadly, we lost her half Arabian daughter
(by our BRUBIL), sweet little "Sunshine", to pneumonia
due to our unusually cold and damp spring.
She was a beauty and the breeding will be repeated! Inquiries welcome!

by the International Barb Horse Registry.
We're VERY excited about this!!
The American Indian Horse
is a hardy descendant of the horses brought to America
by the early Spanish explorers.
They are an ancient breed, descended from the Barb horse;
predating the Arabian, the Andalusian, the Paso and the Lippizan
and color choices are wide and varied.
We have found that our 'babies' are unusually bright and intelligent,
very trainable, with lots of endurance and stamina
and just as sweet as they can be.

It seems that the word is out in the neighborhood
that we're "soft touches" where critters are concerned
and the page wouldn't be complete without the addition of
"The Mew Crew".
Pictured, in order of arrival are Keekee (top left, aka "Miss Kee"),
Busgitty (top right; long story on that name!)
and Funiface (bottom).

Kee appeared here about the middle of summer 2004,
apparently not long after having been spayed (YAY!)
as the incision was still palpable at that time.
We found her a nice home in a nearby town.
Busgitty was next on the scene
and not much over 3-4 mos. old upon her arrival.
She was soooo skinny that 'things' just didn't look female oriented
and was christened "Buster" at that time.
Anyway, weight and a little more age revealed
"Buster" to be of the female persuasion.
She was already answering to "Buster" or "Bus"
so that became transformed into "Bus-kitty"
which morphed into "Busgitty".
Sadly, we lost sweet "Bus" to an accident
within 2 days of her giving birth in July '05.
One of 3 kittens survived, raised totally by hand.
"Scooter" (pic. below) is the image of his mom!

Last, but not least, we have "Funiface"
who appeared here around September '04.
She is the most unusally marked calico that I have ever seen!
Having had my share of cats while growing up on a farm
(26 barn cats at once when I was a kid!), that's saying something.
"Miss Facey" continues to gift us with her children....

... and then there's the grandchild, "Taz"....

... You can guess the reason for THAT choice of name!

The most recent addition to the Bates Motel and Animal Sanctuary ;-)...

... another Australian Cattledog (Blue Heeler) that some callous person
dropped off in the woods near us as an 8-9 wk. old puppy.
Naturally, she found her way to the local "softies" and here she stays.
Named Dotty (aka "Dot the snot") for her many speckles.
She's been relieved of her tick collection and continues to grow and thrive.
We hope to survive her puppyhood....
