BRICKWALLS...
(any help gratefully appreciated!!!)

JANE BOURNE - b. May 1789, probably in or near Tompkins Co., NY; d. 8 Feb 1866 in Pennfield Twp., Calhoun Co., MI; m. 1809-1811 prob. Tompkins Co., NY to Sylvanus PALMERTON Jr. (see below). Their son, Charles W., m. a Nancy BOURNE in Calhoun Co., MI 19 Apr 1838. Nancy *may* have been related to Jane.... ? Census records for the area for the time frame of Sylvanus' marriage to Jane do not find any BOURNs in the area--only BROWN. Could it be????

REBECCA BARNEY - b.c. 1809 VT; d. aft. 1850, possibly Superior Twp., Williams Co., OH; m. James Junie RUSSELL (see below) probably in NY bef. 1830. Some of their children migrated to Montcalm Co., MI.

BENJAMIN JACOBS - b. 1755 Caswell Co., NC; d. 1815 Person Co., NC; m. Nancy SIMPSON bef. 1780 in NC. This line appears to have NA connections.

THOMAS GRIMES - b. 17 Nov 1769 prob. in CT though some sources say NY, other evidence suggests CT, possibly the son of Daniel Grimes, Rev. War vet; d. 11 Apr 1847 Pompey, Onandaga Co., NY; m. Mary GREENFIELD 25 Dec 1794 in Hoosick, Rennselaer Co., NY.

JOHN HENRY McARTHUR - b. 4 May 1812 in Crawford Twp., Simcoe, Ontario, Canada; m. Delilah Palmerton (see below) 11 Oct 1835 in Pennfield Twp., Calhoun Co., MI. John is thought to be the son of ALEXANDER McARTHUR, b.c. 1783, and heaven-only-knows-who. This family slipped back and forth between Monroe Co., NY and Canada before ultimately settling in mid-MI in 1834. The 1830 census for Ogden, Monroe Co., NY lists a Daniel, age 50-60, and Alexander McArthur, also age 50-60. Another puzzle!

JOHN NIBLACK - b.c. 1750 Monaghan, Ireland (??); d. 2 Jan 1807 in Northumberland Co., PA; m. Hannah BAXTER bef. 1774 in NJ; one of the founders of Sparta, Livingston Co., NY.

SYLVANUS PALMERTON - b.c. 1740 in CT (?); d. abt. 1821 Dryden (?), Tompkins Co., NY. One source says, "The father of Sylvanus Palmerton...was a native of France and came to America before the Revolutionary War." Chances are, if such is the case, the original spelling of this name was PARMENTIER, PALMITER or PALMITIER or a variation thereof. Recent findings have led to the discovery of a likeness (photo or tintype?) of Sylvanus' daughter, Delilah, who is VERY Native American in her appearance and certain physical NA traits have been passed down for several generations. Another mystery and another very difficult line to trace!

JOHN RAINEY/RANEY - b.c. 1702 Princess Anne or Northumberland Co., VA; d. 26 Jan 1782 Cain Creek, Caswell Co., NC; m. Elizabeth unk. bef. 1725 in Northumberland Co., VA.

JOHN T RICE (or REIS) - Early OH records show this name as REIS; b. 1789 in PA (from census records); d. aft 3 May 1873 in Stark Co., OH (?); m. Mary Ann Unk. bef. 1805, possibly in PA as census records indicate that dau. Elizabeth was b. in PA. His second wife was Nancy. Children (by MaryAnn): Elizabeth, Christopher D., John T., Alfred, Sarah. John had enlisted during the War of 1812, serving out of PA and been a member of the OH Militia, however, pension records show no record of service and his pension claim was denied.

JAMES JUNIE RUSSELL - b.c. 1806 in VT; d. aft. 1850, prob. in Superior Twp., Williams Co., OH; m. Rebecca BARNEY bef. 1830, prob. in NY. Some of their children settled in Montcalm Co., MI.

WILLIAM SHERD - b.c. 1738 prob. in NJ; d. between 25 Apr 1809-12 May 1810 probably Flemington, Hunterdon Co., NJ; m. Margaret "unknown" bef. 1757 probably in Amwell, Hunterdon Co., NJ. William is believed to have been the son of Thomas SHERD/SHERRED m. Catherine ANDERSON of Hunterdon, NJ. An underage son William is listed in the will of Catherine Anderson Sherd, dated 31 Dec 1755. Further, it seems VERY likely that William SHERD is somehow connected to the SHERRED/SHERARD/etc. families of NJ. William & Margaret's son William Jr. (listed in Sr's. Will) m. Anna W. EMMONS 1801 in Baptistown, Hunterdon Co., NJ.

CATHERINE BAKER - b.c. 1760, prob. in NJ; d. 1848 Hunterdon Co., NJ. Catherine m. William EMMONS bef. 1781, prob. in Hunterdon Co., NJ. They were parents of Anna EMMONS (above). Power of attorney dated 4 June 1819 from William Sherd and Anna, his wife of Aurelius, Cayuga Co., NY to Jonathan Roberson of Kingwood regarding the rights of William to about 15 acres in Amwell which were devised to Anna's mother by the will of her grandfather Baker who resided on it at his death and bounded by Henry Kerr and John Meyers [Mires]. Wit: Jonathan Roberson and Asa N. Burnham. 8 April 1830." [Jonathan Roberson appears to be the son of Thomas Roberson & Catherine Pierce, b. 18 Oct 1769; d. 6 Nov 1844.]
