Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandparents

64. Abraham Byler, born May 1767/8, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Most published genealogies give his date of birth as May 1775, but this is incorrect. Abraham served in the Washington County, North Carolina Militia in 1788 in a campaign against the Cherokees and entered land in Burke County, North Carolina in 1789. Thus, he had to have been at least 21 years of age in 1789 to have legally entered the land. Of course, he could have lied about his age, but it seems more likely that he was actually born in 1768 or before. Abraham Byler died at his home "Byler Bottoms" on 27 December 1826, following a bout with the influenza. He is buried in the Byler Cemetery, Rover, Bedford County, Tennessee. His tombstone was destroyed many years ago by a falling tree. Abraham Byler married Nancy Love (see number 65) about 1795 probably in Buncombe Co., NC or possibly in Washington County, North Carolina (now Tennessee).

John S. Atkinson served as a Senator in the Tennessee Legislature representing Bedford and Rutherford Counties, 1819-1821. Also served in Tennessee Militia during War of 1812. He died 9 March 1829 near Chapel Hill, Bedford County (now Marshall County), Tennesee.

The family resided in Spartenburg County, South Carolina until 1794 when the moved to Warren County, Kentucky. Thomas Hightower died in Warren County, Kentucky after 1807 but before 1810.
