  • Raking leaves into an old tarp allows easier cleanup and transfer to your compost pile.

  •
  • Coat the cut edges of your Jack-O-Lanterns with petroleum jelly to keep them from shriveling up.

  •
  • To keep tools looking great all season long, fill a bucket of sand & add a quart of motor oil.  After using your tools, sink them into the bucket.  The sand polishes the metal, & the oil lubricates and inhibits rust.

  •
  • Fast, cheap and useful-cold frame goes together in minutes.  Arrange concrete blocks or bales of hay in a rectangle.  Top this with an old window or heavy clear plastic.  On warm days, prop the lid open to keep plants from getting too hot.  On cold nights, cover lid with old canvas or blankets for extra protection.  Sow spinach, lettuce and other greens inside for fresh winter salads.
