MELTON, DANIEL, BREWER, COCKMAN, PRITCHETT, DAVIS

I am looking for any information available on THOMAS B.(?) MELTON and BETSIE DANIEL. What I know is this. Betsie Daniel is listed as the mother of Joseph A. Melton on his death certificate. JOSEPH A. MELTON was born in Wayne County on September 8, 1848, possibly 1847 (there is some conflict in the records). Joseph A. Melton's death certificate only indicates that his father's name was "Melton." I checked the mortality tables in Wayne County for 1850. Someone identified as "T. H. Melton" died of fever in November. He was married and born in TN. Further research shows that the County Court Minutes reflect the probating of the estate of one "THOMAS B. MELTON" in an entry noted for October 10, 1849. His spouse, Elizabeth Melton, did not wish to administer on the estate and KING BREWER applied for letters of administration. LOT DANIEL and ANDREW J. BREWER were sureties on the administration. SAMPSON BREWER, JOSEPH COCKMAN and JOSEPH PRITCHETT served as commissioners on the administration. The estate was finally

GOBBELL, GOBBLE

On June 6, 1860, James Riley GOBBELL, my gggrandfather married Mary VICTORY in Wayne Co., Tn. Mary was the widow of Joseph VICTORY. Mary had two daughters, Rhoda and Mary VICTORY. James Riley had one son, John R. GOBBELL, from his first marriage. These five individuals were in the same household in the 1860 Wayne Co. census. Obviously their marriage did not last since James Riley and John R. were in a different household by 1870. Mary Victory GOBBELL, James A. LEE, Mary Victory LEE and the children of James A. An wondering if this Mary Foster Dixon (age 36)was the same Mary Dixon as listed as residing with John's son Columbus Dixon in Greene County TN in the 1850 Federal Census when C. Dixon was listed as age 23. His father was John and mother Elizabeth according to some sources. His parents are listed in Wayne County in the same census year on pg 299B. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Just wondering, if there is anyone working on a new cemetery book for Wayne Co.Tn.? If not, maybe we should take up a collection to hire someone to do the job. It would really benefit all of us. Thanks, Shirley Dabbs DuPopnt

BEASLEY

Researching the BEASLEY family from Wayne County, Tenn. John C. Beasley served in Company A, 2nd Tenn. Mounted Infantry. We have located him on the 1850 Wayne County, Tn. census records with his family. We will trade information with anyone researching this BEASLEY family. Please visit our sites:

We are descended from his son, Malone Beasley, born 1850, Jefferson County, Ga. They later moved to Ga. where we found them in 1850, moved to Arkansas where we located them on the 1870 and 1880 census records for Arkansas. John C. Beasley died in Ark. and his children moved to Texas.
