McMILLAN, Elder John, 1766 - 20 July 1836 age 70. His gravestone indicates that he was
from
North Carolina. There is no mention of him
anywhere else. Evidently, he accompanied his
children when they migrated to Wayne County
between 1830 and 1839.

The Lynn Cemetery was more or less a family cemetery. Most, if not all, of those buried there were related to the Lynns. The list above reflects the order of their burial. It seems that the first one buried there, Elder John McMILLAN, was buried nearer the bottom of the slope and later burials were made moving up the rise. At some time during the 1960's or 1970's the cemetery was desecrated, the tombstones broken and even the graves were dug into.
In November 1995, a group of prisoners from the Clifton prison helped clear the cemetery and "recover" it from years of neglect. The stones are gradually being restored as best they can be. It should be remembered that the road system that we now enjoy did not always exist. Older generations depended upon creek beds and highland trails to travel on horseback and/or wagons. A study of the area by map shows that Mill Creek is not so far from Bundrant Hollow on Indian Creek. The McMILLANS lived very close to the cemetery if you look at a map of the area. In fact, there was a close proximity between Indian Creek, Mill Creek and Hog Creek. This explains how friendships, marriages and deaths were shared by our ancestors. Many fellowshipped in the same churches.

Location: On Roanoak Creek Road 2.5 miles west of Tennessee Highway 13. The graves are on the north side of the road about 100 feet from the road. There is only one tombstone, but three graves are there. Information on burials provided by Mr. Dola E. "Britches" Horton, who did the enumeration. LOCATION: On the top of the point in Lay Hollow behind the old Scott Farm. There is supposed to be one grave here according to Luther Lay. It is that of a black girl, name unknown.

Location: On both sides of the hollow, south of Hoyt Johnson's house on the Indian Creek Road. This church and cemetery were in existence between 1820 and 1910. According to Luther Lay and others, this was a large cemetery. Providence Church was one of the "mother churches" of the Indian Creek Baptist Association, founded in the 1830's. About 1910, the church moved from this location to Memorial Church. It is not known what happened to the tombstones and markers in the cemetery. Only a few field stones now remain. Like many abandoned cemeteries in Wayne County, the stones were probably removed by the land owner for the purpose of cultivation of the land. The land here has been under cultivation since about 1920.
From available information, the following kust of burials is provided. It is possible that some of these may be buried in other cemeteries, but this is the best reconstruction available at this time.

To reach the Cromwell Cross Roads Cemetery, from Collinwood, Tennessee, travel
State Hwy. 13 south for approximately 2.1 miles. Turn right (west) onto Co. Rd.
203 and travel for approximately 5.2 miles. The cemetery is on the right side of
the road beside the Cromwell Cross Roads Community Church.
This cemetery is located in western Wayne County, Tennessee in the Cromwell
Cross Roads Community. It was established September 08, 1910. Ben Berry & John
David Sherrill maintain the grounds. For burial information, contact Ben Berry
at 1-931-724-5280 or John David Sherrill at 1-931-724-9795. The cemetery is well
cared for and there is ample room for burials.
