I am researching my great great great grandfather JOSEPH JAMES HACKNEY. Specifically his
Cival War years. He served in Company C, 19th (Biffle's) Tennessee Cavalry (known in the
field as the 9th Tenn. Cav.). He enlisted 8/25/1862 in Mt. Pleasant, TN under Captain C.F.
Barnes and was paroled as a 1st Lieutentant May 1865 in Gainesville, GA. If you have any

CASEY, TURNBOW (TURNBAUGH) Researching the family of James Hill Casey, born 1813 in NC,
and his wife Jane Turnbow, b. 1815 in Wayne Co., TN. They were married March 1830 Wayne
Co., TN. and moved to Texas in 1851. Possible parent of Jane is Hugh Turnbow, and for

McSWINE Seeking information on the John McSWINE, who in 1808 while living in Wilson Co.,
TN, bought 432 and 1/2 acres of land in Humphreys Co. A John McSwine was listed as one of
the first settlers of Humphreys Co. and in one source it said that he and his family
survived the "McSwine Flood of 1814", presumbably because of the overflowing of
the Duck River. In 1819 there is a record of a John McSWINE, JR. receiving 200 acres on
Duck River from his father John McSWINE, SR. This may be the John McSWINE who died in
Williamson Co. in 1815. In an 1820 census of Humphreys Co. there is a John McSWIM and he
is still there in 1830. Using information from these two censuses, he would have been born
1800- 1894. If the John McSWINE of Humphreys Co. was the son of the John McSWINE who died
in 1815 in Williamson Co., he had siblings: Mary McSWAIN who married Wiley P. MANGUM and
lived in Hardin Co., TN; Isaac E. McSWAIN who moved from TN to IN; William H. McSWAIN who
moved from TN to TX; Sarah McSWAIN who married Terril C. WHITE and moved from Hardin Co.
to MO and then to AR; and, Edmund McSWAIN who moved from Wayne Co., TN to IN. Any
information on the McSWINE/McSWAIN family of Humphreys Co. would be appreciated.

mother's name was Betsie Daniel. Subsequently he moved to Liberty Township, Saline County,

These Meltons are from the Wayne County, TN > Saline County, AR branch of the Family. I
am looking for information on a Joseph A. Melton (b. Sept. 8, 1848, in Wayne Co., TN). He
was the son of (?) Melton and Betsie Daniel. Both of his parents were born in TN.
Subsequently he moved to AR. He married a woman named Missouri (?) who had a son named
Rolla from her previous marriage. Missouri was born in September of 1844. The marriage
apparently occurred sometime around 1878. Missouri was born in Mississippi. Together they
had four children, Olivia Melton, b. 1870, AR; William Thomas Melton, b. 1872, AR; Sarah
Melton, b. 1874, AR; and John Melton, b. 1875, AR (in addition to step-son Rolla (?), b.
1863, AR). Joseph A. Melton died on Jan. 16, 1916 in Liberty Township, Saline County, AR.
In turn, William Thomas Melton (who went by the name Thomas Melton) married (?) and had
children named John Lilburn Melton, b. Mar. 1893, AR; Idella Melton, b. Aug. 1896, AR
(married James Cleveland, Sept. 21, 1893; Catherine Missouri Melton, b. Oct. 1898, AR;
Virgil Melton, Floyd Melton and Clarence Melton (all three of whom died as small
children). William Thomas Melton married Ida Bell Doan in 1890(?) in AR. Their children
were George Garvin Melton, b. Jan. 11, 1901, AR; Gertie Melton, b. AR; Joseph Melton, b.
AR; Vernon Melton, b. AR; Wesley Melton, b. AR; Ed Melton, b. AR; and Norma Melton, b AR.

Anderson DAVIS, born abt. 1794 in either VA or NC. He married an Anna Helen RILEY. She was
born abt. 1795 in South Carolina. They migrated to Wayne Co., TN in 1817 and lived there
until 1872. If you have any information about this DAVIS or RILEY family from Wayne Co., I

My ancestor John Lee removed from Washington County, VA to Overton County, TN, where
apparently he died in the mid 1820s. John may have been brother to Evan Lee, whose land
adjoined his in Overton County. John apparently married a Mary Lee in Washington County,
VA in 1789. It seems likely that this John was the son of a John, who died in Washington
County and left land to John Jr. John Sr. was thought to have lived previously in
Appamattox County. John Jr.'s son Henry and wife Dorcas, came to Wayne County around 1825
with sons Newton Lee, Jesse, probably Stephen, daughter Nancy and others came to Wayne
County, TN around 1825- 26. Jesse and probably Henry had been War of 1812 veterans. Henry
was a Captain in the Civil War (Union). Would like to trace my family back. Any help or
